General IIT JEE tips Part 1

I will be writing a series of articles covering IIT-JEE tips based on my experience of scaling the IIT JEE mountain in 1993. The format has changed, but fundamental way of cracking exam wouldn't have. So, let's start:
I quoted to Bokaro Darpan or some such publication after acing IIT JEE 1993. I still stand by that.
सभी  विषयों के सारभूत सिद्धांत को आत्मसात करने से ही सफलता मिल सकती है ।
This translates to the following:
Learning the fundamentals of all subjects is the key to success.
During 1980s and early 1990's, the times when I followed the pattern of IIT-JEE, you'd encounter a lot of subjective questions, which you had not see before. So to be able to solve that required understanding Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics to the core. I will dwell more on this in a different post.

Misleading reprting by Nalin Verma in Calcutta Telegraph on IIT JEE topper coming out of Bihar

Mr. Nalin Verma of Telegraph reported wrongly in a newspaper article on Sat, May 31, 2008 about the first IIT-JEE topper from Bihar being Shrikanth, but I had topped IIT JEE in 1993 and Abhinav Kumar of Jamshedpur in 1997. This was before Jharkhand was carved out of Bihar. some readers of PatnaDaily have also expressed their complaint. I was jealous, as chief minister Nitish Kumar met the families of Shrikanth, but while there rumours of then chief minister Laloo Prasad Yadav meeting me and giving a merit scholarship, none happenned. It is interestign that all 3 IIT JEE toppers from Bihar/Jharkhand have joined IIT Kanpur. It pains me that in recent years, it is no longer toppers' choice. Infact 86 of top 100 joined IIT Powai in Mumbai.

Indian SME

The potential of Indian SME is huge. Their contribution to Indian economy is staggering. There are a lot of IT, web and mobile opportunities in servicing SME's, which can be exploited for new business model. One of the grand-daddy of SME solution provider is Justdial (my Linkedin profile), the company I work for. They are leading local search engine. I present my personal views in this blog.
There are 8M SME in India. Only, 400K have a web presence. Only 100K out of these is professional, so getting a web and mobile presence for SME's should be a good business. There are 18000 pearl dealers in Hyderabad, but only 3 appear in web searches. If you look at search volume of pearl on search engines like Google from India, you will know what these SME are losing. From an eMarketer slide:
  1. Emerging economies - 88% growth in Internet users
  2. 70m mobile Internet users (180m of 300m in 2015 will be mobile only)
  3. 30% time on Internet
  4. 40b ecommerce (2015) 6x
  5. 20x growth in google search from 2005, out of which 80% will be travel.
  6. By 2015, 1/3 of online users will buy online. 7hr purchase decision is for a web user, but only 1hr mobile search purchase decision in categories like - restaurant, events.
  7. Growth is predicted from 70m (as of beginning of 2012) to 132m (projected number by end of 2012) for mobile Internet user in India. This is a stupendous growth and SME's can not ignore this medium to reach their target audience.
  8. 1 in 3 mobile users in India will access Internet by 2015.

Prasoon Jha IIT topper

I have discussed over at my Wordpress blog, how I changed my name from Prasoon Kumar Jha to Prasoon Kumar. I went on to become IIT topper. I did computer science and engineering at IIT Kanpur. Studying at IIT Kanpur is a very humbling experience, because everyone with you is topper from his/her respective school.
